Alan backs new GP appointments system
16 October 2012
On Friday 12th October Alan met doctors at Oakham Medical Practice to discuss their new appointments system, designed to deal with increasing patient numbers and reduce waiting times.
The new system, which will go live on Monday 19th November, will still require patients to call the Practice reception when they wish to make an appointment. However, they can then expect a personal call from the doctor themselves on the same day who will be able to assess them initially over the phone before advising whether they need an appointment and if so, with whom.
Oakham Medical Practice currently has 16,000 patients under its care. With an expanding town population and increased life expectancy, changes are needed to ensure the same level of service is protected. The new system, which has been widely implemented in GP practices across the country will mean patients get to speak to a doctor or nurse faster than at present and will allow medical professionals to deal with each case more efficiently.
After the meeting, Alan said: ‘I am fully behind this change. The surgery cares for a
huge and increasing number of patients and this is a cost-effective, sensible and smart way to deal with cases more swiftly and effectively. Like all new systems it will take a little time to get everything running smoothly, but I would encourage people to get behind the new procedure. It'll need a little patience from the patients, but the doctor knows best!’
